It is finally official: The Brazilian President will pay a visit to the Netherlands, scheduled for April 10 and 11.

Dutcham is involved "behind the curtains", assisting the Dutch employers´ organisation VNO-NCW with the setting up of a round-table session with important business leaders in the bilateral relation between Brazil and the Netherlands.

According to the Minister Ricardo Guerra, interim director of Europe Department in Itamaraty, the State Visit of the President Lula emphasizes a strong commercial relation that the two countries are holding in the last years.
In this visit Lula will meet the Royal family and the Prime minister; he will do a lecture about “Brazilian initiation in the globalized world”. The intention of this visit is to retribute the visit of Queen Beatrix in 2003 to Brazil.

In 2007 The Netherlands was the biggest investor in Brazil, however those investments consists in 1,5% of the Nederland world investments, so one of the main objectives in this visit is try to acquire more investments specially in the area of ports, naval infra-structure and fluvial transports.

Regeringslunch

Lula begon gisteren met een ontmoeting in Paleis Noordeinde met contacten uit de tijd dat hij vakbondsbestuurder was. Aan het begin van de middag was er op het Binnenhof een regeringslunch ter ere van Lula en zijn echtgenote. Andere onderdelen van het programma waren een seminar in het World Forum Convention Center en een presentatie van een traditionele samba in Den Haag.

Akkoorden

Het bezoek van Lula was gericht op het versterken van de banden tussen Brazilië en Nederland. De twee landen ondertekenden in aanwezigheid van koningin Beatrix en Lula akkoorden over onder meer watermanagement, onderwijs, havenlogistiek en biobrandstoffen.

Brazilië is politiek en economisch een belangrijke partner van Nederland en de Europese Unie. Met 5,15 miljard euro in 2007 is Nederland een van de grootste buitenlandse investeerders in Brazilië. Rotterdam is de grootste aanvoerhaven voor Braziliaanse producten in Europa
